Adult Arrested at Lakeside Middle School for Drug Possession
An adult patron was arrested Thursday while attending an after-school event at Lakeside Middle School in Columbia County.
A news release from the Board of Education Office says Columbia County School District Police responded to reports of a substance found inside a handbag in a restroom.
“The bathroom area was immediately isolated and upon further investigation, the contents tested positive for an illegal substance,” according to the release.
The bathroom and other areas of the school were decontaminated before the school building opened this morning, according to Principal Jeremy Medlin.
In a letter sent to parents Medlin said, “Safety of students and staff is a top priority, and while this incident did not take place during the school day, we felt it was best to notify you in the event your child raises any concerns. Please rest assured, our campus is a drug-free zone and illegal substances of any kind are not tolerated. No further action is needed at this time and school operations will continue as normal.”
Evans High School Parents Notified About Social Media Post
One day earlier, Evans High School Principal Wade White sent a letter to parents making them aware of a social media post created off campus involving some students that were seen and heard using inappropriate and offensive language.
“We have discovered that not all of the individuals involved are enrolled in our school or the Columbia County School District. Even so, the displayed behavior does not exhibit the character fundamentals we expect from our students, nor the positive school culture we aim to provide. While this is not an emergency situation, the insensitive post continues to circulate on social media platforms, and we felt it was best to make you aware in the event your child raises any concerns,” said White.
White encourages parents to talk to their children about the proper use of social media, as well as the damaging impacts of creating and posting inappropriate content.
5 Physical Activities in Augusta That are Tailored Towards Homeschooled Kids to Keep Them Active
Are your kids homeschooled but you want a way for them to participate in art, P.E., music, and sports?
Sometimes with homeschooling, it’s easy to go through the regular academic work assignments and forget to put in that needed exercise. At most public schools, a full class is dedicated solely to some type of physical activity. Whether that is walking, dodgeball, running, etc.
Luckly, there are many CSRA activities that are geared towards kids who are homeschooled. This can easily accomplish the physical activity part of the day.
Kids must indulge in some physical activity for at least one hour every day. Implementing regular physical activities improves muscle strength and boosts endurance.
Establishing a consistent physical workout schedule during the homeschooling day doesn’t have to be difficult, especially with some of the ideas that are listed below. Physical activities can range from sports, a jog or bike ride around the neighborhood, etc.
For these classes listed below, most have a small number that are able to register for each class. Your kid will then be able to be in a small population setting. They will also have the opportunity for exercise lesson plans to be tailored to them. Not only does this activity have to stay during the school days, but your child may find interest in the activity and want to make it a part of their normal routine at home or a routine hobby.
Physical Activities for Homeschooled Kids in the CSRA
These community classes are also a great way for kids to get physical activities, when the parent or the homeschool instructor is not as physically active. It is also a chance for the kid to meet other kids in their age group. Which can be one of the experiences that may not happen as much since the child is homeschooled.
Check out these options below of upcoming community activities happening in Augusta that is tailored towards homeschooled kids.
