Dancing Stars Update – Cody Meets Her Dance Partner
It finally happened! Yesterday, March 6th, I got to meet my dance partner for Dancing Stars of Augusta. Check out the video below for my full Dancing Stars update.
Dancing Stars Of Augusta
I told you guys not too long ago that I’d been asked to be part of Dancing Stars of Augusta. And I looked back to see what date I was officially asked. It was Wednesday, January 24th. So about 6 weeks ago. Well, the show is set for Saturday, May 4th. That means I’ve got about 8 weeks to prepare now. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I realized most of the other “stars” had joined back in November. Talk about feeling behind!
I decided to do Dancing Stars because first of all, it’s for a great cause. This event raises funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. They provide funding for research, advocacy, and patient and caregiver support. If you’ve ever known someone affected by this terrible disease, you know just how devastating it is. It’s a disease with no cure. And it completely robs a person of not just their memory, but of their personality and their ability to function and carry out every day tasks.
As a former dancer, I will admit the dancing part of this appealed to me too! It’s been a long time since I’ve taken a dance class. And while I grew up doing ballet, tap, and jazz primarily, I was excited to experience dancing with a partner! But I was also super nervous too. Especially as the time to prepare gets shorter!
Update – Meeting My Dance Partner
Originally, I was set to meet my dance partner on February 23rd. I knew his name, and had seen a picture of him. We had even texted a few times to coordinate our meeting. On the day we were set to meet, he had to go out of town for an emergency with his daughter. And I completely understood. But that definitely didn’t help my stress about getting ready for the show!
People would ask… “What kind of dance will you do? What kind of song?” All I could say was, “I have no idea!” I wasn’t sure how the process would work when it came to deciding on the dance style or the music. And I think that not knowing the process made me even more stressed out!
But yesterday, we finally got to meet. We were set to meet at 11 a.m. at Ballroom In Motion. There were a lot of feelings going into it too! Check out this little video compilation I put together with a Dancing Stars update: before, when I arrived, during the process, and after!
Where Do We Go From Here?
So, Daniel and I have already scheduled our next dance session. It will be next Friday, March 15th! And yes, you can bet you’ll get another Dancing Stars update then! We do have the song picked and started the choreography. I will say, I think having some dance experience will help me out a good bit. At one point, Daniel was demonstrating something, and I said, “So, like a three point turn?” And he said, “YES! I can use technical terms with you… and you get it!” I also caught myself throwing out ideas and said, “Sorry, I’ll try not to play choreographer!” But I think he was glad to make it a collaborative effort so we can throw ideas around!
I feel like we will definitely work well together. I’m so excited to get the rest of the dance choreographed so we can polish it up… and then win ourselves a mirror ball trophy. Because you better believe, I’m in it to WIN IT!
How You Can Help Dancing Stars Of Augusta
As mentioned above, Dancing Stars of Augusta is a fundraising event for the Alzheimer’s Association. Each dancer has a goal to raise a certain amount. And I will admit, it terrified me a bit when I saw the number. Then, knowing I was already late to the game made me worry even more. But I have already had some incredible people step up to donate, and also give me ideas to help raise the funds. I am so grateful for everyone who has already donated. Any amount is appreciated and will help me reach my goal.
Tickets for the show are still available. But you can also just make a donation. And if you have someone you know that’s battled this disease, make a donation in their honor or memory!
