White Charged with Parrish’s Murder: Update in Augusta
Caleb White will be charged with Devon Parrish’s murder. That was the word today from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, regarding a man who was taken into custody Tuesday at an apartment complex in North Augusta.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced today that 21-year-old Caleb White, who was wanted for questioning in connection with the disappearance of Demon Parrish in early January, will be charged with his death.
Parrish was last seen on Mill Street in Augusta on January 8 and his family says his last posts on social media came the following day. A search for Parrish went on for weeks before his body was found off Silver Bluff Road in Aiken on February 17. An autopsy confirmed he had been shot.
About a week after Parrish’s disappearance, the Sheriff’s Office said they were looking for White for questioning. It was later learned that Richmond County authorities had obtained a murder warrant for White three days after Parrish’s body was found.
The Search for White Ended February 27
The search for White ended Tuesday after a large police presence was reported at the Plaza Place Apartments, not far from Publix in North Augusta. Richmond County’s SWAT team, North Augusta Public Safety Officers and U.S. Marshalls negotiated with White before he finally surrendered about an hour later. A female who came out of the apartment with White was not identified and it’s not known if any charges will be filed against her.
White to be Charged with Parrish’s Murder
White was taken into custody and is being held without bond in the Aiken County Detention Center, pending extradition to Richmond County.
Today, Investigator Walter McNeil said White will be transferred to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Augusta at a later date, where he will be charged with Murder and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.
