Teen Shoves Store Owner in Augusta Resulting in her Death
A teen shoved a store owner in south Augusta last month, leading to her death earlier this week. The woman who was working at the Get it to Go store at 3232 Deans Bridge Road was trying to stop some shoplifters when she was pushed to the ground.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says 74-year-old Chong Chon, who owned the store, was working behind the counter when she spotted three juveniles in the store. She told investigators all three were black. The two girls were dressed in all black clothing. The male was wearing a striped sweater, sunglasses and a ski mask over his head.
Chon was Shoved While Trying to Stop the Shoplifter
Chon said she saw the boy take a 12 pack of beer from the cooler and head toward the front entrance to the store. That’s when she said she stepped in front of him and told him to put the beer back.
“The black male then pushed Chon to the ground and ran out the front door with the two black females,” according to the incident report. All three suspects ran toward Georgetown Road. Deputies searched the area, but didn’t find anyone at the time matching the descriptions of them.
Investigators said Chon hit her head when she was shoved, resulting in serious injuries.
She was taken to Wellstar MCG where she died February 20 as a result of those injuries.
A 13-year-old has been Charged with Chon’s Murder
Today, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office arrested 13-year-old Antonio Cyrail Williams of Augusta and charged him with Murder While in Commission of a Felony.
