Murder-Suicide Under Investigation in Burke County
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder-suicide at an RV park on Sunday.
Burke County Deputies and members of Burke EMA were called to Made in the Shade RV Park at 4759 River Road to investigate a suspicious incident.
When authorities went inside the RV, they found the bodies of 50-year-old William Proveaux and 51-year-old Cynthia Smith. Both lived in the RV, according to the sheriff’s office.
“During the early stages of the investigation, it was determined that the male shot the female victim and then took his own life,” according to Colonel Jimmy Wylds.
A news release says the sheriff’s office was initially contacted by a family member who arrived at the RV park to check on the couple. That’s when the bodies were discovered and the sheriff’s office was notified.
Two Murder-Suicides Investigated in the Area in January
Murder-suicides were under investigation in Aiken and Richmond Counties in January.
On January 15, 43-year-old Tiffany Britt was shot and killed by her husband, 55-year-old George Britt, just before 11 am at the Murphy USA gas station near Walmart on Richland Avenue in Aiken. Witnesses said the couple had been arguing when Britt pulled out a gun and shot his wife. An off-duty police officer was at the gas station at the time. He tried to intervene, but Britt shot himself in the head. Britt died at the scene. His wife was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers where she died a short time later.
The day before, Richmond County authorities were called to the 1200 block of Holden Drive where a man and woman were found dead in their home.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said 41-year-old Rebecca Williams was shot at least one time. Also in the home, deputies found the body of 43-year-old Michael Williams. Bowen said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
