A winning $1 million Powerball ticket was sold in Aiken this week.  If you bought a Powerball ticket there for the Monday, January 29, drawing, check your pockets.  You could have a ticket worth $1 million.

The $1,000,000 ticket was sold at the Windsor Shell gas station/convenience store at 4467 Charleston Highway.  It was one number away from winning the Powerball grand prize.

The million dollar winning ticket for the $174 million jackpot matched all five white ball numbers which were 39, 41, 43, 49, 64 and the Powerball was 4.  Even matching the five numbers had odds of 1-in-11,688,054. according to a news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery. There were also $1 million winners in California and Texas. The Power Play was 2X.

The Winner Can Remain Anonymous

South Carolina is one of 11 states that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.  The other 10 states include Georgia, Arizona, Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virgina.

To Claim the Prize

The South Carolina Education Lottery issued advice to the winner.  "Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you're ready to come forward to claim the prize."

Once the prize has been claimed, the gas station where the ticket was purchased will receive an estimated $10,000 commission for selling it.

More than 8,000 other players in South Carolina also won prizes in Monday night's drawing. Since there was no grand prize winner, however, the jackpot for Wednesday night's drawing is estimated to be at least $188 million.
