Augusta - The Masters

Practice rounds are always my favorite time at the course. The players are more relaxed and you never know who you’ll see.

We are only two and a half months until the world's biggest golf tournament, The Masters. Fans, I mean Patrons, will come to Augusta, and many first-timers will check this off their bucket list.

 Golden Ticket To The Masters

For Augustans, the true sign of the tournament getting closer is the Golden Ticket bus. You'll find it parked in front of Circle K on Washington Road. It’s the city's annual rebirth as spring arrives. And residents prepare to rent their houses, go on vacation (if they don't have badges), and watch The Masters tournament from their VRBO on the coast.

Bridges and Pine Straw

The I-20 Bridge construction will still be underway during Masters this year. The latest update from the Georgia Department of Transportation is: "The current progression has three lanes open in both directions by late April/early May 2024. Other construction work will continue after that to button up the project.

Pine straw is a hot commodity, and yards are getting serious attention for spring. It truly is a magical time for the Augusta area.

It’s the busiest week of the year for area hotels, too. And just about everything is sold out a year in advance. People will have to stay as far away as Columbia and Atlanta.

Patrons Parties

If you can't make it to the tournament, many locals and fans out of town will be partying and watching at area sports bars and restaurants along Washington Road and all over town. This is the biggest week of the year for them, too.

Pimento Cheese

Do you want to eat like the patrons on the course? You can order a Taste of The Masters, which includes the classic Augusta National pimento cheese sandwiches on white bread, egg salad sandwiches, and more, including souvenir cups from The Masters. I haven't heard anything different, so I hope they will continue the Taste of the Masters again this year.

We can't wait to see you this year!

Photos From The Masters

Tee has worked with KICKS 99 for over 24 years as Operations Manager and Program Director and is on-air each afternoon 3p-7p. When he’s not working, you’ll find him traveling the back roads, taking pictures, and searching for the next dive diner. Favorite place to visit? That’s easy. Folly Beach, SC. He’s usually there at least a few times a year. He lives in North Augusta and on Saturdays in the fall, you’ll find him cooking out and watching his Clemson Tigers. Tee likes to write about travel, Augusta local dive bars and diners and destinations in the Carolinas, as well as new business.
