Pizza Hut is getting into the nitty gritty of people and their pizza habits. The Texas-based pizza chain surveyed 5,000 Americans within the past month to gather order habits, pizza go-to, and other pizza insights.

How often does the average American order pizza?

Their survey revealed that the average American has pizza three times every month. They also found that we eat eight slices of pizza during the same period. They do note that these findings vary by state. Leading the country with an average monthly consumption of 10 slices is Wisconsin. Regarding overall pizza-eating, North Dakota, New York, Minnesota, and Wisconsin order and eat the most pizza every month.

No surprises here. The study found that the most popular day to order pizza is Friday.

When it comes to crust choices, 28% like thin crust the most, followed by 20% for stuffed crust, and 14% for thick crust. Stuffed crust is particularly popular in 14 states, with Wyoming and Montana leading at 30%, and Arkansas, Nebraska, and West Virginia tied at 28%.

In New Mexico, 21% of people prefer deep-dish pizza, surpassing Illinois where only 17% favor it. Similarly, Hawaii has a greater fondness for pan-dish pizza at 24%, in contrast to Michigan where only 7% share the preference.

For dipping sauces, 38% prefer ranch dressing, 27% go for garlic sauce, and 8% choose hot sauce.

Let's talk about toppings.

The favorite pizza style for most people is New York-style (35%), and the top choice for a topping is pepperoni (42%). Interestingly, 44% of respondents are open to trying the controversial pineapple on pizza, while 23% would prefer to ban fish as a topping. Other toppings that some people would consider banning include beets (21%), blueberries (15%), and plums (14%). Surprisingly, 10% of those polled are open-minded and wouldn't ban any pizza topping.
