A new year has started, and of course, many people have big plans for what the year will bring.  And for some people, travel ranks pretty high on their list of what they'd like to do more of. When it comes to where you'll stay, you have choices.  Of course, there's your typical hotel room, and a growing number of Airbnb rentals.  Then there are bed and breakfast spots, if you're looking for a little bit different experience.

What Is A Bed And Breakfast?

Maybe you've never been to, or stayed in a bed and breakfast, and you're wondering what set it apart.  First of all, it's a business that accomodates overnight guests.  And just like the name says... you get a bed AND breakfast.

These businesses are often run out of large family homes.  This means there are going to be less rooms available. So, if you're planning a getaway for a large group, you'll probably need to look for different accomodations.  Also, stays at bed and breakfasts are typically shorter periods of time, often just overnight.

Best Bed And Breakfasts In The US

Coventry Direct decided to look into the bed and breakfast industry to find the best spots. They ranked 100 popular vacation cities in the U.S. and looked at their offerings when it comes to bed and breakfast spots.

When it came to evaluating bed and breakfasts, they looked at the number of B&Bs in any given city, along with nearby entertainment, restaurants, and downtown area.  Any city with 20 or more bed and breakfasts were given perfect scores.

In the end, Madison, Connecticut exceeded all of the cities on the list.  They scored 88.4 out of 100.  They have 37 bed and breakfasts per 10,000 people, and 28 that offer free Wi-Fi.  Along with that, there are many historic buildings and over a thousand restaurants.

The next Georgia town on the list is Savannah.  But, surprisingly, they ranked all the way down at 35. Then Atlanta came in at number 50.  Those were the only 3 Georgia cities on the list.  As for South Carolina, only one city made the list, and that's Charleston.  They ranked at number 35.
