A big thanks to the Friends of the Nancy Carson Library and Aiken County sales taxes.  Because of their support, the Nancy Carson Library in North Augusta is going to get a 1.2 million dollar update.

According to WJBF, the groundbreaking ceremony took place this past Friday, December 15th.  The money will go toward updates to modernize the library.  They will be equipped with new technology and become more user-friendly for their patrons.

In addition to the technology upgrades, the library will also add on new public meeting spaces. The Nancy Carson Library is one of 6 libraries in Aiken County.  And they will be the second library of those to be renovated.

Other News From The Nancy Carson Library

While they did close temporarily at the end of November, during the renovations, the library will remain open.  However, they do recommend parking behind the building to enter their temporary location.  They have a limited number of books, movies, CDs, and computers for use.

The library hours will remain the same during this time:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday - 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday and Friday - 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Sunday - CLOSED

The library recently posted on Facebook to remind patrons that they are not accepting book donations until further notice.  Because of the renovations, they will not have the space for those donations.

Also, did you know that the Nancy Carson Library does story time for schools and daycares?  They will come to you and do a story time once a money.  This monthly outreach is free.  If you're interested in setting it up, you can contact Renee Burton at 803-279-5767, ext. 1531.

The Nancy Carson Library is part of the ABBE Regional Library System which includes Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, and Edgefield counties. You can get a free library card to use at any of the libraries in the ABBE Regional Library System if you live, work, attend school, or pay property tax in any of those counties. Non-residents can get an ABBE library card by paying a $20 annual fee.
