Two Killed in School Bus and Car Crash in Aiken

The Aiken County Coroner's Office has released the identities of two people who were killed when an Aiken County school bus and car collided Thursday near the intersection of Wrights Mill Road and Rushton Road.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed that no one on the bus was injured.  Both occupants of the 2018 Toyota Corolla. 37-year-old Christopher Register and his wife, 29-year-old Rachel Register of Columbia, South Carolina were pronounced dead at the scene.   Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said autopsies will be performed today in Newberry.

Authorities say the bus was traveling east on Wrights Mill Road and the Corolla was headed north on Rushton Road when the vehicles collided at 12:18 pm.

Only the driver, a monitor and one middle school student were on the bus at the time of the crash.  The student was taken to the hospital for observation, but was released a short time later.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
