Road Closures and Water Disruptions in Downtown Augusta This Week

Starting Monday, November 20, work on Augusta Transportation Investment Act projects in the downtown area will affect motorists.

Starting Monday, November 20:

  • Greene Street between 2nd Street and 4th Street will be closed to begin work on the Greene Street Improvement Project.  Detour signs will be in place.

Starting Tuesday, November 21, Water Service will be Interrupted in the Following Areas for Repairs:

  • 4th Street between Ellis Street & Greene Street
  • 3rd Street between Broad Street & Greene Street
  • Ellis Street between 3rd Street & 2nd Street
  • 2nd Street between Ellis Street & Telfair Street
  • Greene Street between 2nd Street & 4th Street

Water service will be interrupted between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm while work is being done.  Work should be finished and roads re-opened no later than 12 pm Wednesday, November 22.

Greene Street Improvements:

The Greene Street Improvement Project runs from 13th Street to East Boundary Street.  A contract valued at just over $12 million was approved for the first phase of the project, which includes upgrades to the street that will include resurfacing, reconstructing the existing curb and gutter, new lighting, sidewalks, storm sewer system and better traffic operation.
