Zip Lining Across The Augusta Riverfront Will Soon Be A Thing
Zip lining around the Augusta Riverfront will soon be a thing? Apparently, the answer to that question is yes! However, the talks that are ongoing aren’t just about a single zip line. In fact, there could be an entire urban outdoor adventure center on the Savannah River. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty intrigued by this.
So What Are The Details?
According to an article from WJBF Newschannel 6, the zip line would be somewhere around Freedom Bridge, aka The Fifth Street Bridge. The article quotes Jennifer Bowen from Destination Augusta as saying “Zip lining around the river is going to happen.” WJBF’s article also says that a Commission committee has agreed to partner with Destination Augusta. Together they would create an urban outdoor adventure center on the city riverfront.
Something like this is already happening in Columbus, Georgia. In the article, WJBF says that $1.75 million has already been approved part of SPLOST 8 and the project is being pursued. The plan right now is to seek out for proposals from companies to put the zip lining adventure package together. With the end goal would be drawing crowds to downtown Augusta.
When Could It Happen?
Also in the article WJBF says city engineers say if zip lining comes to the 5th Street bridge, the structure will be able to handle it. If the full commission approves it next week, the hope is phase one will be up and going sometime next year.
If they can pull it off, I think this is a great thing! The CSRA is growing, more and more people are moving here all the time, and they need things to do. This would be another thing for people here to do. I just hope they can pull it off, and do it the way it needs to truly be done in order to be successful. I guess we’ll just wait and see what happens.
