Augusta’s First Tiny Home Complex Is Coming In 2024 For A Big Cause

Augusta’s first tiny homes are expected to be coming to the area in mid-2024. The homes will be in place of a former city park on Merry Street. These tiny homes aren’t just coming to the area just to come, but they are coming to the area for a good cause.

These tiny homes are to help youth that is aging out of the foster care system. The Project is forwarded by Bridge Builder Communities. Bridge Builder Communities is a nonprofit that provides housing, education, and vital resources to 18-25-year-olds who are aging out of the system.

The founder of the Bridge Builder Communities is Dr. Jackson Drumgoole, he is also the founder of Drumgoole Family Initiatives, which helps fulfill his desire to see at-risk youth and families thrive.

The ordinance for these tiny homes was passed about a year ago.

This is a 2.5 million dollar project, each home will cost $50,000. The organization is a quarter of the way towards meeting that 2.5 million-dollar goal. They recently received a 50, 000 dollar donation from CareSource. There will also be fundraising events to come in the future to help continue to reach that 2.5 million goal. They hope to reach there halfway point by the time of the next event.

There will be 25 housing units, those units will be broken down into 5 pods with 5 homes in each pod. The tiny home will be 320 square feet, which is about the average size of a standard hotel room. Inside each home, there will be a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. The complex is also projected to have a community center and a vegetable garden.

It is also a hope that building these homes for the youth will help the city's homeless problem.

They are hoping to have those teens moving in by the end of 2024. These will be the first step to help them transition out of foster care and into the real world.

Grovetown actually came in at number 20.  The average rent on a 1 bedroom apartment is around $947 with a -2.72% year over year change.  Honestly, with all of the growth in Grovetown, we were quite surprised.  Just a few years ago, things looked a lot different in that area.  But they have been building and expanding.  A lot of families continue to move into that area and we expect that to continue with the proximity to Fort Gordon, and the Augusta area with many job opportunities.

Dalton is famous for the carpet stores, and is located in the Appalachian Mountains.  A great place to hike with beautiful views.  It's somewhat convenient to both Atlanta and Chattanooga.

Rincon has a long history as a railroad town and played a significant role in the Civil War.  This means you'll see many historical markers around town.  But it's also a place that now draws many young families, as it is conveniently located near Savannah.  There's a lot of great family-friendly activities here.

You may think that Cumming is part of the Atlanta metro, but it is about 40 miles away.  If you don't mind the drive, you can still work in Atlanta, but live away from the hustle. There are many great outdoor activities here as well, including Lake Lanier and many golf courses.
