Violent Fugitive Taken into Custody in Burke County
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office says a violent fugitive was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after holding a woman against her will at a home in the 1300 block of Clarks Place Road.
The Incident
Six minutes after the 9-1-1 call was made, deputies met with the woman making the call down the road from the incident. Authorities say the victim was in the vehicle with her. The victim told officers that Kadarine Roberts held her against her will in the home and assaulted her with a firearm. She said he let her go when the other female arrived in the driveway and threatened to call police.
Burke County EMA transported the victim to a hospital in Augusta where she is reported to be in stable condition.
Officer Response
Meanwhile, deputies tried to contact Roberts at the home, but got no initial response. “Deputies were advised that Roberts was in possession of a long rifle and handgun at the time of the incident. They were also able to determine that Roberts was wanted out of Jenkins County for an unrelated Aggravated Assault and Firearms Possession case,” according to a news release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was sent to the home where Roberts had barricaded himself. Special Response Team operators moved Burke County Sheriff’s Office Negotiators in front of the home in a secure (SRT) vehicle in an attempt to get Roberts out. Authorities said they eventually moved Special Response Team operators into the residence for a room-to-room search with a throw-bot after there had been no communications with the suspect for an hour.
“Special Response Team operators were able to locate Roberts hiding in a closet in the hallway of the residence with an AR-15 rifle near him. Roberts was then taken into custody without further incident,” according to the news release.
In Custody
Roberts is being held in the Burke County Detention Center on multiple charges including Aggravated Assault (Family Violence), False Imprisonment, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. A hold was also placed on Roberts by the Jenkins County Sheriff’s Office for several felony warrants.
The Burke County Sheriffs Office says the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released when they become available.
