Georgia is now home to not one, not two, but to five restaurants that have earned Michelin-rated stars.

What does it mean to get a Michelin star?

Michelin stars are given out on a scale of one to three stars. To qualify, the restaurant must be one of the top in the world. One Michelin star is awarded to a restaurant that uses top-quality ingredients. All of the restaurants that received a star in Georgia, received one Michelin star.

Those five restaurants are all located in Atlanta. They were awarded one Michelin star on Tuesday night during a ceremony that was held at the Rialto Center for the Arts, which is based in the downtown area.

What five restaurants in Georgia received a Michelin star?

  1. Atlas

This upscale restaurant is located in the St. Regis Hotel. Atlas serves seasonal American Cuisine with some European influences to the dishes. The chef is Freddy Money. He believes in storytelling through food and creating innovative presentations.

  1. Bacchanalia

Always being seen as one of Atlanta's top-rated restaurants, this spot opened in 1993. The menu consists of contemporary American cuisine. Bacchanalia changes slightly each evening and changes depending on the seasons. The chefs are Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison. And they are also the owners.

  1. Hayakawa

This is an Atlanta traditional Japanese sushiya. Sushiya is a term to describe restaurant that specializes in sushi. A place that is also passionate about Japanese cuisine and culture. It has been around in Atlanta for over 15 years. The original long-time location was located on Buford Highway. But it is now located in a new, smaller space in the Star Metals development on the Westside of Atlanta.

  1. Lazy Betty

This restaurant offers a 4-course or 7-course tasting menu with optional wine pairings. They also offer a vegetarian 4 or 7-course upon request. The owners and chefs are Ron Hsu and Aaron Phillips.

  1. Mujo

MUJŌ is an intimate edomae-style sushi-ya. The executive chef is J. Trent Harris. Their menu changes daily depending on the what the best ingredients are for the season.
