Cake Slices Sold at Walmart Recalled Nationwide

If you've purchased some Marketside Ultimate Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake slices at Walmart, be aware of the latest nationwide recall.

David's Cookies issued the recall this week because the cake has an undeclared allergen and could pose a serious risk to some customers with food allergies.  The cake slices were mislabeled as Marketside Chocolate Chip Explosion Cake slices, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The recall notice says, "The label on the cake slices does not depict peanut as a key ingredient and does not declare the peanut allergen warning on the label."

David's Cookies is now recalling the Marketside Chocolate Chip Explosion Cake slices sold nationwide over the label issue.  It was distributed in 7-ounce clear plastic packages marked with lot number BS23212 on the top of the package.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, peanuts are among a list of foods that account for the most serious allergic reactions in the United States.

So far, no serious injuries or illnesses have been reported as a result of the food recall, according to the FDA.

Officials say the Walmart distribution center where the mislabeling occurred has been identified.

"David's Cookies and Walmart worked in coordination to block all the Marketside Ultimate Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake and Marketside Chocolate Chip Explosion Cake from their distribution centers and store registers to prevent anyone from being able to purchase the products until further investigation and resolutions have been completed," according to a news release from the FDA.
