Man Charged with Hit-and-Run Death of Pedestrian on Mike Padgett Highway
Aiken County Sheriff's OfficeAn Augusta woman was killed earlier this week while walking in the 3300 block of Mike Padgett Highway. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen pronounced Zyionna Fields dead at the scene just before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday. The driver who hit her left the scene.
Today, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office says the vehicle that took off was identified with the use of the agency's Flock cameras.
On Thursday, the 1997 Ford F150 identified in the footage was found off Brown Road and the driver was identified.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office Traffic Division arrested 34-year-old Darnel Brown of Augusta. He has been charged with felony Homicide by Vehicle and felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
The accident report has not been made available yet.
