Teen Drowns at Pointes West in Columbia County
A 16-year-old was reported missing this afternoon while swimming with family and friends at Pointes West Army Resort in Appling. Two of the four teens swimming together made it to shore, one was found near the shore, but divers began a search for the fourth teen. Later this afternoon, the body of 16-year-old Sevonn Small was recovered from the lake, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were notified around 2 pm that a teen went missing while in the water. Divers found Small’s body about 90 minutes later.
Crews from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources were also called to the scene.
