Georgia Laws Regarding Medical Cannabis
Georgia law states that patients with one or more of 18 medical conditions can legally purchase up to 20 fluid ounces of cannabis oils containing no more than 5% THC for use in oral or topical forms if they are applicable with the Georgia Department of Public Health. Those conditions include cancer, seizures, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. The production, sale or ingestion of food products infused with low-THC oil, or the inhalation of oil through smoking, electronic vaping or vapor do not authorization.
Those interested in obtaining low-THC medical cannabis will have to see a physician to determine if it’s right for them. If it’s recommended, the physician will enter the patient’s information into Georgia’s state patient database. Within 15 days, the patient will be notified. His/her Registry card can then be got from a public health office. The standard fee is $25. His or her will need to renew medical cannabis card every two years.
To get a Registry card, you must be one of the following:
- An adult who has one or more of the diseases specified in the law:
- Legal guardians of an adult who has one or more of the diseases specified in the law
- Parents or legal guardians of a minor child who has one or more of the diseases specified in the law.
The Georgia Low THC Oil Law does not prevent an employer from drug testing or even terminating an employee if they don’t pass a drug test.
