Three Richmond County Schools Will Offer Eligible Students Free Lunch
Richmond County free school lunch will be offered to students in three eligible schools. This will be through the Community Eligibility Provision during this new school year.
Families with children attending Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, Freedom Park K-8 School, and C. T. Walker Traditional Magnet School are requested to complete a free and reduced lunch application at school or online at rcboe.org/schoolnutrition.
Richmond County school officials say free and reduced lunch status from the previous school year will apply until Friday, September 15. After that, parents or guardians will have to complete a 2023-2024 school year application. This is in order for their child/children to continue to receive free and reduced lunches.
Currently, all Richmond County School Systems students receive a free breakfast at school.
The Community Eligibility Provision allows eligible schools to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of income. CEP allows schools in high poverty areas to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students. Even without submitting a household application.
“CEP benefits students and schools. When a child’s nutritional needs are met, the child is more attentive in class, has better attendance, and has fewer disciplinary problems,” according to No Kid Hungry.
Any school district with 40 percent or more students who are eligible for free school meals without a household application can participate in the CEP program.
