Third Annual Trash Bash Between Augusta and North Augusta

In a press release sent out today, Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson and North Augusta Mayor Briton Williams have challenged each other once again.  It's the third annual Trash Bash at the Border Challenge.

This challenge pits the two cities against each other.  They compete to see who can have the most volunteers show up and help clean up the area.  The challenge helps raise awareness about litter and illegal dumping in and near the Savannah River.

The third annual Trash Bash at the Border Challenge happens on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The competition will be measured by volunteer turnout, total amount of debris collected, tires and recycling materials removed, and the most unusual items found. Which city will have the most impactful cleanup?

Clean up during the challenge will include land and water, with the use of kayaks and motorized boats.

Those volunteering for North Augusta will meet at the North Augusta Riverfront Amphitheater.  And those volunteering for Augusta will meet at the Jessye Norman Amphitheater at the Augusta Riverwalk.

The "losing" side will have to wear the opposing team's shirt. And they'll also present the winning Mayor with the Mayor's Cup at their city council or commission meeting.
