Chances are, movie theaters will be packed this Sunday.  Not only is it a great place to stay cool, but participating theaters nationwide will also show all movies for just $4.  The bargain ticket prices are in celebration of the second annual National Cinema Day.

Georgia Theater Company, with theaters in Evans and at the Villages at Riverwatch are participating in the promotion. In addition, Regal Cinemas at the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center and at Aiken Mall are participating as well.  More than 3,000 theaters nationwide are participating.

An estimated 8.1 million moviegoers took advantage of the special promotion last year, when tickets were just $3 for the inaugural National Cinema Day.  It was a single-day attendance record for the year.  The summer box office is already nearly 17% ahead of sales in 2022, according to the National Association of Theater Owners.

"We look forward to gathering at the movies and celebrating an exciting slate of new releases and classics, from beloved family favorites and outrageous comedies to thought-provoking dramas and thrilling adventures," said Jackie Brenneman, president of the Cinema Foundation.

Moviegoers will be able to choose from dozens of films on the big screen this Sunday. These films include "Barbie," "Oppenheimer," "Gran Turismo," "Golda," "The Hill," "The Little Mermaid," and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie."  A sneak peek of anticipated fall releases is also expected to play before each screening.

Some theaters are also promoting special concessions pricing for the event Sunday.  Regal Cinemas is advertising a small popcorn and small drink combo for just $4.

To get a full list of participating theaters, go to NationalCinemaDay.org, Fandango, or any local movie theater website.
