Austin: [00:00:00] If you ask me, President Trump and his team are doing a very smart thing, staying away from the Republican challengers debate coming up very shortly. Of course, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Ron DeSantis and the rest of the crew were dying to each take their own shots of Donald Trump, which is exactly why he intends to stay completely as far away from those debates as possible.
Debates are there for several reasons. They exist to promote a candidate's identity and to establish a difference between him or herself in the rest of the field trying to drum up support. Well, trust me, if you don't know what Donald Trump is and who he is by now, you don't have any business voting in the primary anyway. And the same can be said for for President Biden.
Neither Trump or Biden have anything to gain by debating any primary opponents at this point. It really is a silly exercise for the front runners. Everything to lose, nothing to gain. Trump's foibles, his down points. Everyone knows them by now. Again, if you are a Republican voter, there are a lot of things you can say about Donald Trump, but mysterious as a candidate is not one of them.
If it was a question as to whether or not the president was slipping in his ability to hand handle one on one debate on the issues of the day or maybe some nuances when it comes to policy, I could see it. That's not in question. President Biden has all those questions. But again, I can understand him wanting to stay away from that kind of scrutiny as well.
So say what you want to about Donald Trump and for that matter, Joe Biden and their decision to stay away from major debates. At this point, Quite frankly, I think it's a good move for both of them if you are polling to see either one of them win. And I don't see them taking any chances any time soon in giving up their position as frontrunner simply to make their opponents happy. And that the comment, I'm Austin Rhodes, AM 580/95.1 FM News Talk WGAC.
