TW Josey Shooting Suspect Still At-Large
One student was shot and another is still at-large following a shooting this morning inside TW Josey High School at 1701 15th Street.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Board of Education held a joint news conference this afternoon to discuss events surrounding the late-morning shooting that sent Josey and nearby Murphy Middle Schools into hard lockdown.
Sheriff Richard Roundtree said the suspect, identified only as a male juvenile who is a student at Josey, is still being sought. The only description of the suspect is that he’s black and was wearing a yellow jacket and black pants. Roundtree put out a plea to anyone who knows of his whereabouts to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim in the shooting was another male student who was shot in the finger. Roundtree said he is undergoing treatment for non life-threatening injuries.
Roundtree credited quick action by responding officials to recent active shooter training. Parents were notified of the shooting incident and were instructed to pick up their students at school’s football stadium.
Board of Education President Kenneth Bradshaw said officials will be making a decision about whether classes will be held at TW Josey and Murphy Middle Schools tomorrow and an announcement will be made. He said counselors will also be available to students who have safety concerns when they return to school.
