The Georgia Department of Transportation is continuing work on the Savannah River Bridge project on I-20 and has announced a temporary detour that will be in place for the next couple of months.

The detour will be at the South Carolina Welcome Center as traffic merges to I-20 eastbound.  The detour will begin overnight Thursday, August 10, and will be in place for approximately two months.

The Welcome Center will remain open and accessible while the detour is posted.

DOT officials say crews will implement a closure of the auxiliary lane along I-20 eastbound so work can continue on the roadway.  Those leaving the Welcome Center will need to use Exit 1, SC-230/Martintown Road, make a slight left onto Martintown Road, and continue right onto I-20 eastbound.
