Student May Have Been Injured by Knife During Brawl at Aiken High School
The Aiken Department of Public Safety has released more information about a fight that broke out at Aiken High School last week involving several students.
Lt. Jennifer Hayes said one student who was injured during the brawl on August 3 was taken to the hospital for treatment of an injury to his thigh. Rumors circulated at the time that weapons were involved in the altercation. Officials had said a knife was found, but was not believed to have been used during the fight that broke around 12:30 pm in the school’s cafeteria.
“After reviewing medical documents and evaluating the injury, it is possible that the juvenile may have been struck by a knife or other sharp instrument,” said Hayes.
An initial statement from officials after the incident indicated there were no firearms involved in the disturbance and a few students received minor injuries. At least six students were taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor affray.
Today, Hayes said officials confirmed four additional students were involved and now face the same charges.
The investigation is continuing, according to Aiken Public Safety officials.
