Austin talks about the writers’ strike and using AI.

Austin:[00:00:00] And we need to picture that iconic scene from Star Trek Two Wrath of Khan, where William Shatner looks into the camera, very angry, very upset at the antagonist of the movie and screams as loud as he can. Oh, well, I just did that with John Patrick.
John, when he repeated not once, not twice, I think three times that he was watching Strange New Worlds, the new Star Wars TV show. He didn’t. Yes, he did. Oh, my gosh, he did. But, you know, I just used that as a springboard to very quickly comment that a lot of the current strife over the creative strike out in Hollywood centers around celebrating old material and the A.I. and computer generated imagery of those old series like Star Trek, What They’re Afraid of.
One of the things you’re afraid of, they’re going to have their their images, their likenesses, even their voices recreated via computer after they’re dead. They’re not going to get paid for it. It’s a serious concern. Now, what’s really interesting about this is that the Roddenberry family has actually come forward with some incredibly lifelike A.I. involving Leonard Nimoy’s image that if you look at on some of the samples they put out, looks like Leonard Nimoy, circa 1967, wearing the same uniform, speaking the same dialog that it’s never been seen before. It’s completely, completely computer generated.
The actors and actresses in Hollywood want to make sure they get paid for that. And again, John. Star Trek, not Star Wars. That’s okay. It’s a great show, by the way. No matter how many people are debating over this week’s last episode. So that’s one of the many interesting little developments in Hollywood to keep in mind. You may be seeing those great stars from your old favorite television shows doing new material soon, even after they’re dead. And you won’t know the difference from the old imagery that we’re all so much enamored with. And that’s the comment, I’m Austin Rhodes AM580/95.1 FM News Talk WGAC. [00:00:00][0.0]
