Austin talks about Attorney Chris Carr possibly running for governor.
Transcript:
Austin:[00:00:00] As Georgia’s term limited governor, Brian Kemp decides what he’s going to do with his future. A lot of questions have come up concerning who should be considered the front runner to take his spot. Well, some of that confusion has been cleared up over the weekend when apparently Attorney General Chris Carr has made clear to several of his supporters and confidantes that he does intend to seek the office of governor.
I think that puts Chris Carr automatically in the position of number one challenger to that seat. And by the way, that should thrill conservatives from around the Augusta area. Not only is Carr very familiar with Augusta, and he has done an awful lot to help improve our quality of life here. He’s a very, very conservative pro law and order attorney general, very anti-gang crime. Matter of fact, he appointed a special gang prosecutor for this area, working directly for his office and McKenzie Ray, one of the true superstars in criminal prosecution in this area.
But he also happens to be married to the former Joan Kershner. Joan was the chief of staff for Johnny Isaacson for a number of years. But you may best remember her as a great reporter for the Augusta Chronicle for a while. She was very well-respected in the area by all who knew and worked with her. And again, she has always kept piece of Augusta in her heart.
So Chris Carr looks to be one of the favorites to possibly succeed Brian Kemp in coming years. And it looks like even though Kemp is kind of take a hands off approach right now on naming a successor or who he would favor in the Republican primary, you have to think that Chris Carr would have his it, at least behind the scenes support as again one of his favored political allies of the last several years, Chris Carr as Georgia’s governor. Man, we could not do much better than that. And that’s the comment, I’m Austin Rhodes. AM 580/95.1 FM News Talk WGAC. [00:00:00][0.0]
