Austin talks about high school football games and the high temperatures.

Austin: [00:00:00] As we are used to seeing this time of year. The summer temperatures really seem to intensify in August. And believe it or not, early September, for some strange reason, at least in recent years. Can you imagine what it would be like if you were on a high school football team and having to deal with the temperatures, not only, you know, the work out of football, but my goodness gracious, with the artificial turf that’s been installed in most of our major high schools in the area, that has elevated the field temperature sometimes five or six degrees.
Bottom line, we need to do all that we can to accommodate these young men and all the peripheral staff and the marching bands and the cheerleaders for that matter, and making the experience of playing high school football as cool as possible. Can you believe that there are some people in these in the CSRA that are having junior high, excuse me, junior varsity and middle school football as early as 5:00 in the afternoons last year in Columbia County Middle School competition began at 4:30 on some of these fields.
That’s completely ridiculous. We need to move all of these game times to 7:00. I’ve been saying this for years, and now that I’m watching my own son go through it. Oh, my goodness gracious. I can tell you firsthand they need to change the game. Times varsity starts at 7:30. I would say at the very least, all of the games, middle school and junior varsity need to start at 7:30. They’re held in different days of the week. There’s no time conflict there.
I was asked I was asking not long ago why it’s not already done that way. And the leaders that are in charge of such things scratch their head and say, well, we’ve always done it the other way. Well, that’s not good enough. Move these high school football games, junior varsity and middle school games to as late as we reasonably can do at 730 a minimum for everyone. Let’s make the experience as tolerable and successful from a comfort standpoint as it can possibly be. The way those games and that’s the comment. I’m Austin Rhodes AM 580/95.1 FM News Talk WGAC.
