Let’s learn more about the first round leader, Paula Reto.
Paula is 33 years old and from South Africa. She attended college at Purdue University. As a matter of fact, while at Purdue, Paula played in Augusta at the Augusta University women’s tournament at Forest Hills and won the individual title. In 2012, she reached the quarterfinals of the US Women’s Amateur, eliminated by the eventual champion that year, Lydia Ko.
She finished tied for 16th at the 2016 Summer Olympics and qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics but was forced to withdraw due to the COVID protocols.
She has one victory on the LPGA tour, coming last year at the Canadian Women’s Open. Her -19 total was good enough for a one shot victory over Nelly Korda and Choi Hye-jin.
To date, her best finish in a major championship is a t-18 at the 2016 Chevron Championship.
