Austin talks about the homeless situation in Richmond County.

AUSTIN:[00:00:00] Interesting conversation with Richmond County Chief Deputy Pat Clayton coming into the radio show yesterday afternoon to spend an hour with us talking about the homeless situation on Washington Road and what his department is attempting to do about it.
He is asking for increased help as far as regulation and ordinances go from the Augusta city commission to kind of sharpen their stick as far as the rulebook goes to make sure that everyone is on the same page in a legal sense concerning vagrancies and improper trespassing. That’s all fine and good.
But one thing that Clayton said yesterday is very interesting to me. He says that we are a two state social resource for homelessness and derelict citizens because we received so much federal funding for nonprofits and medical agencies in our area. Fascinating point.
Who’s been lobbying for all those federal funds coming in for nonprofits and medical facilities? Well, your liberal politicians. They’ve wanted Augusta to be a one stop service center for, you know, the derelict citizens in the world, the homeless, those that are down on their luck.
And if it’s a temporary situation where you’re giving someone assistance to help them get back on their feet and become a productive citizen, Hey, who’s all against that? No one.Everyone’s for that. We support that.
The problem is these folks are not becoming self-sufficient. They are coming in, sucking off the government teat and remaining government dependance. And that is a very bad thing. That’s how you turn big, thriving cities into enclaves of homeless government dependance. This is how we have to break the cycle. Stop acting like idiots when it comes to taking care of those who refuse to take care of themselves.
Sometimes, ladies and gentlemen, kicking the fanny is the best way to solve a problem. Let’s make sure that folks who are living irresponsibly understand there’s a price to pay for it. And that includes jail time. Get your life straight. Get on your feet and get busy with your life. Great message. Let’s make sure that the right politicians hear it. That’s the comment, I’m Austin Rhodes, AM 580/95.1 FM New Talk WGAC. [00:01:49][0.0]
