Hollywood actors and writers are currently on strike. They are striking for improved payment contracts and better pay deals for writers. Especially from streaming services such as Hulu and Netflix.
With both SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America being apart of the strike, this means a shutdown of tv shows and movies that are currently in production. This is the first time that both the WGA and SAG have been on strike at the same time since 1960.
Georgia is one of the the most popular filming spots in the nation because of the unlimited tax credits. So that means shows and movies that were being shoot in Georgia have been put on hold.
Some shows and movies that are being shoot in Georgia, that have been halted due to writers strike:
- Gladiator 2
- Juror #2
- Deadpool 3
- Stranger things season 5
- P Valley season 3
According to a statement from Gov. Brian Kemp's office, Between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022, Georgia hosted 412 productions, represented by 32 feature films, 36 independent films, 269 television and episodic productions, 42 commercials, and 33 music videos.
There's a lot that goes into the film and tv industry that will also be affected, such as food businesses that provide food for industry workers on set.
Along with the strike means actors are forbidden from promoting their projects. No premieres, talk show appearances, or magazine covers that were not conducted before the strike began.
You may be thinking what about Barbie and Oppenheimer? There was tons of press, appearances, covers, etc. Yes, those two big movies that was recently released were conducted before the strike began.
There is no word yet on when the final date of the strike could be, but Georgia's Film industry is certainly seeing some of the impact of the strike.
29 Movies That Turn 40 in 2023
When looking at the movies that turn 40 in 2023, one thing is very clear: 1983 kind of ruled!
In 1983, a holiday classic was born with A Christmas Story. Meanwhile, a star was born in Tom Cruise thanks to Risky Business. Women started cutting up their sweatshirts thanks to Flashdance, and a new sex symbol was born thanks to that gold bikini in Return of the Jedi. We also said hello to a little friend (Scarface), gave our daughter the shot (Terms of Endearment) and were gagged with a spoon (Valley Girl.)
Here are 29 movies that turn 40 in 2023. Even the biggest cynic would agree that 1983 at the movies was totally tubular.
