Austin talks about Trump's announcement yesterday.

Transcript:

Austin: [00:00:00] Not much of a surprise yesterday when President Trump announced that he had been informed that the Justice Department is investigating his actions and activities concerning and related to the January 6th riots at the U.S. Capitol. Now, I say that it's not a surprise.

Think about Trump's defense during this entire scenario. During all of the queries into his behavior post-election 2020. He believes the election was stolen. Most everyone close to him says he believed the election was stolen. Now, if in fact it was, did he do anything illegal and or improper in regards to how he should have responded?

I'm kind of hard-pressed to say that he did do anything illegal. He most definitely looked for loopholes. He looked for constitutionally sound ways to object to the election being tabulated, the election results being tabulated the way that they normally are. And he even employed the vice president of the United States in his constitutional role as the gatekeeper for these results to actually intervene.

Now, there is a role that the vice president has always played in that process. If, in fact, there was there was misbehavior and or incorrect information being sent to Washington, would it have been the vice president's role to intervene? It was such a question in a legal sense that just recently Congress and President Biden changed the law and changed the rules to make it crystal clear. That's a pretty good defense for President Trump. Did he break the law? If he did? Show me the law he broke. If he was just pursuing a legal means to challenge what he thought was an unorthodox and or illegal election process, was he within his rights? It's a dadgum good legal question.

And I got to tell you, from based on the actions of the federal government toward Trump, the false allegations of Russian collusion, all of the ridiculous, over-the-top allegations that were easily released by the Justice Department way back when. I got to tell you, the president may have a pretty good case to make. Stay tuned. It is going to be interesting. And that's the comment, I'm Austin Rhodes, AM 580/95.1 FM News Talk WGAC.
