Christmas Tree Shops Permanently Closed in Augusta

Christmas Tree Shops is the latest retailer to announce it's going out of business and shutting down all its stores across the country, including one in Augusta.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May and recently closed 10 underperforming stores in a bid to save the struggling business.  In the end, sales have continued to decline and company officials decided last week to close the remaining 72 stores.

There are just two Christmas Tree Shops left in Georgia, one in Augusta on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway in the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center and one in Kennesaw.  The only location in South Carolina is in Greenville.

Bed, Bath & Beyond and Buy, Buy Baby stores, both in the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center, will be closing their doors for good in the days ahead.

Christmas tree Shops is expected to liquidate the remaining assets it has, including all stores, unless a potential buyer comes forward soon.

Tuesday Morning, which operated a store in the Washingtons Corner Shopping Center on Washington Road, recently closed its doors for good.   Party City is in the process of closing 30 stores across the country, but the one in the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center is not on the closure list.
