An aggressive fox that was spotted recently in Burke County had rabies.

The Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed that the fox was spotted on Herndon Road, Middle Ground Road and Porter Carswell Road and was picked up by Burke County Animal Services.

Burke County Animal Services removed the fox and had it tested.  On June 12, the Burke County Health Department confirmed the fox tested positive for rabies.

Residents are urged to make sure all dogs and cats are up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations.  Also, avoid wild animals and report any contact between humans and/or pets with wild animals to the Burke County Health Department, as well as Burke County Animal Services and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
