Man Accused in Local Teen’s Murder Extradited to Augusta
The man accused in the murder of an Augusta teenager outside Richmond Summit Apartments on Broad Street downtown in March has been extradited from Pennsylvania to face charges here.
Richmond County authorities say 30-year-old Gregory Thornton was captured there in May and was brought to Augusta over the weekend to face charges in connection with the death of 13-year-old Buddy Brown Jr.
Investigators say Brown was shot when he went outside the apartment at 3 a.m. March 28 to pick up a Door Dash delivery. Deputies patrolling in the area heard a gunshot, then found Brown a short time later. He died at the scene.
Thornton and an accomplice, Tia Shante Jackson, were identified as suspects in Brown’s death. Thornton, who lived in Baltimore, had been staying in Augusta at the time of the shooting. He fled back to Baltimore and was the focus of a manhunt for days until he was finally captured in Pennsylvania last month. Thornton was just extradited to Augusta over the weekend. He and Jackson, who was taken into custody in West Virginia in April, face murder and other charges in connection with Brown’s death.
