A 25-year-old man who was being held at the Burke County Detention Center for another agency attempted suicide this morning, according to a news release from the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

The inmate, who is being held on charges of Child Molestation, had been placed on disciplinary lockdown this morning for rules violations.

A Correctional Officer saw the inmate as he suspended himself with his bed sheet from a cell bar and quickly called for help.

"Other Correctional Officers along with medical personnel responded to the cell block and performed CPR on the unconscious inmate.  They were successful in reviving him," according to the news release.

The inmate was cleared medically to continue confinement at the Burke County Detention Center, but is now on suicide watch.

Authorities say the inmate has been uncooperative and aggressive toward officers since his arrest.
