Officer Involved Shooting This Morning in Aiken

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting incident earlier this morning at Whiskey and East Pine Log Roads in Aiken.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety says an officer was approached by a white male at the convenience store there at 1:45 a.m.  There was an altercation between the two before the suspect got in his car and rammed the officer's vehicle several times.  Authorities say the suspect then attempted to attack the officer with a knife.

According to a news release, "Additional officers arrived on the scene and engaged the suspect with their weapons, hitting the subject multiple times."

The suspect was taken to an area hospital, but his condition is not known.  The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will be charging him with Attempted Murder.
