Man Sought for Assaulting Woman in Front of Her Three Children

Grovetown Police are looking for a man accused of assaulting his former girlfriend in front of her children late Saturday night.

The incident was reported May 6 just after 11:00 p.m. at the victim's home on Beretta Drive in Grovetown.  Thirty-eight-year-old Johnathan Jermain Mathis is accused of physically assaulting the victim after she told him to get his things and move out.  Investigators say the victim's children tried to help her as Mathis allegedly punched her repeatedly with a closed fist.

They also say this is the second time this month that Mathis has been accused of attacking the woman in front of her children.

Mathis is 5'10" and weighs 150 pounds.  He was last seen leaving the area in a black 1999 Dodge Durango with the Georgia tag SBY9158.

When taken into custody, Mathis will be charged with Battery, Family Violence and Cruelty to Children.
