Jerry Springer has died at 79 years old. The iconic talk show host was diagnosed with cancer recently, gossip website TMZ reports. This week, the Jerry Springer Show host’s health took a turn for the worst.

Springer’s brief battle with cancer made him unable to work about a month ago. He was hosting a folk music show on a local Cincinnati radio station. Springer died in his Chicago home. The former Cincinnati mayor is survived by his daughter Katie Springer, whom he shared with ex-wife Micki Velton. He also has a sister, Evelyn Springer.

Before Jerry’s success with his wild talk show, he served one term as Cincinnati’s mayor in 1977. The Jerry Springer Show debuted in 1991 and aired until 2018. It first focused on political issues, but it became a worldwide sensation after wild guests would get into fights. The audience would always cheer, “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!”

Following the talk show, Springer returned to TV with his courtroom show, Judge Jerry. It ran for three seasons. His last television appearance was on The Masked Singer last season.
