There are so many wonderful destinations for a quick day trip from Augusta away, and today, we head out to Abbeville, South Carolina - just 1 hour and 12 minutes away.

It's a laid-back,  backroads trip from North Augusta, and it takes me about a little over an hour to get there.  All great small towns have a town square, and this one is no exception.

The Opera House

I walked around for an hour last week in downtown Abbeville, a beautiful small town. The Abbeville Opera House brings in many artists and events year-round. It opened in 1908. Day Trip From Augusta: Abbeville, SC - 1 hr 12 min

Day Trip From Augusta

The Trinity Episcopal church was built in 1860 and is a beautiful French Gothic-style church. The spire is 120 feet and dominates the Abbeville skyline. You'll see a picture of it below. This city is so full of history and historic buildings!

If you want to turn your day trip from Augusta into a two-day trip, you can stay at the historic Belmont Inn, downtown.

Vaudeville Stars

According to the hotel's website; For over 113 years, The Belmont Inn has been a landmark in Upstate South Carolina; from its early days as a railroad hotel, a place of lodging for Vaudeville stars, its middle years of neglect and long-term rental, and through the extensive renovation of the 1980s and 1990s. Originally, this historical beauty of Spanish architecture was comprised of thirty-four guest rooms, several public restrooms with baths, an elegant dining room, beautiful parlors, shops, and a sample room (what is now the ground floor) where traveling salesmen displayed their wares to the local merchants.

Let me know if you take the trip! I would love to know what you think.
