Richmond County Public Defender Charged with Giving Contraband Toilet Paper to Inmate

A public defender faces a felony charge after visiting an inmate at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Phinizy Road in Richmond County on March 29.

Thirty-year-old Rodrequez Bennett is accused of taking a roll of toilet paper from a supply closet and giving it to Darnell Evans, an inmate at the facility.  An incident report says Evans took the plastic/wax paper off the toilet paper, handed the roll back to Burnett, then folded the wrapper up and placed it inside his jump suit to conceal it from deputies.

The report says, "the plastic/wax paper is used by inmates to smoke."

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says Burnett placed the roll of toilet paper back into the closet, while Evans distributed the plastic/wax paper under the door to other inmates.

Burnett was charged Thursday with Giving Convicts Articles Without Consent of the Warden.
