An Aiken County deputy is on administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting this morning during a traffic stop.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Christopher Williams stopped a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Brittany Norton just after 10 a.m. near the intersection of Howlandville Road near Cemetery Road.
Authorities say Williams allegedly fired a shot during a confrontation with Norton, striking her vehicle. No one was injured. Norton reportedly left the scene and was eventually stopped in the 200 block of Schley Street. She was taken into custody without incident.
Norton was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center and charged with Failure to Stop for Blue Light and Possession of a Schedule IV Substance.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was called in to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
