Richmond County Deputies Charged with Assaulting Inmate
Two Richmond County deputies have been accused of using unnecessary force in connection with an incident at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on February 23.
According to a news release from the sheriff's office, the inmate filed an officer grievance against deputies Gerardo Sanchez Jr. and Joshua Jackson.
During an investigation, authorities say they found video of the deputies assaulting the inmate. The case was forwarded to the Richmond County Criminal Investigation's Division and Sanchez and Jackson were charged today with Simple Battery and Violation of Oath of Office.
"In the air of transparency at the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Richard Roundtree will have a media conference at 400 Walton Way on Wednesday, March 1, at 10:30 a.m. Sheriff Roundtree will discuss this incident and the recent arrests of employees that have occurred within the past year," according to the news release.
