An investigation is underway after a one-year-old child died suddenly Friday night in Aiken County.

The Sheriff's Office says Emergency crews were called to a report of an unresponsive child at a home on L and L Lane near the downtown area, just after 9:30 p.m.

The 12-month-old child, identified as Alexavia Aguirre, was in cardiac arrest when officials arrived and was pronounced dead later at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.  An autopsy will be performed in Newberry Tuesday to determine the cause of the child's death.

Few details have been released, but the baby's mother was reportedly arrested and charged with Possession of fentanyl.  It's not known if the child's death is connected to the mother's drug arrest.  The investigation is continuing and no other information has been released yet.
