The Aiken County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the victim whose body was found in a burned vehicle July 28 on Boggy Gut Road near Williston Road.
The body was burned beyond recognition, so authorities were not able to positively identify the victim at the time.
Coroner Darryl Ables says DNA testing has confirmed the victim was 33-year-old Freddie Powell III of Aiken. Ables said the cause of death of "homicidal violence." An investigation is continuing. So far, there have been no arrests in the case.
