The National Weather Service has confirmed two EF-0 tornadoes passed through Lexington County during a series of storms in South Carolina Wednesday morning.

The first twister hit southwest of south Congaree around 10:45 a.m., resulting in wind gusts up to 75 mph.  The tornado was 50 yards wide and traveled just under three miles before dissipating.  Officials think the tornado traveled between Cathy Lane and Old Orangeburg Road.  Trees were uprooted and branches were scattered throughout the area, but no injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service confirmed a second touchdown southeast of Gilbert, though more survey work needs to be done to determine its path and strength.

Survey teams are still out today checking additional areas in South Carolina for possible tornado damage, mostly across the southern part of the state and in the central Savannah River area.  At one point Wednesday, tornado warnings were issued for Aiken, Edgefield, Saluda and Orangeburg counties.

In Georgia....the National Weather Service says heavy damage was reported in Burke County near the Highway 25 and Old Waynesboro Road areas.  Officials are still working to confirm a possible tornado touchdown there not far from the Burke-Richmond County line.
