Three Area Golf Courses Made Top 20 lists in Georgia and South Carolina
Golf Magazine ranks golf courses across the country every year, and an area course has made the list of the top 20 in South Carolina, while two are in the top 10 in Georgia.
Sage Valley in Graniteville is one of the best the state has to offer, according to the magazine. They have a large team of expert panelists from 15 nations travel the country with a list of hundreds of courses, checking off the ones they believe are the best. Golf Magazine says many have played more than 1,000 courses in 20-plus countries.
The top 20 courses in South Carolina include Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Yeamans Hall in Charleston, Harbour Town in Hilton Head, Congaree in Ridgeland, Palmetto Golf Club, Long Cove in Hilton Head, Chechessee Creek, Secession in Beaufort, CC of Charleston, Sage Valley in Graniteville, May River-Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, The Dunes in Myrtle Beach, Kiawah Island-River, Bulls Bay, Caledonia in Pawleys Island, Kiawah Island -Cassique, Greenville-Chanticleer, Camden in Camden, Old Tabby Links in Okatie, and Musgrove Mill in Clinton.
In Georgia, The Augusta National ranks number one in the state. Augusta Country Club finished seventh on the list. Others making the top 15 include Peachtree in Atlanta, Ohoopee Match Club in Cobbtown, East Lake in Atlanta, Sea Island, Lookout Mountain, Cuscowilla in Eatonton, Ocean Forest in Sea Island, Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, Atlanta Athletic Club-Riverside, Frederica in St. Simons Island, The Farm in Rocky Face, the Atlanta Athletic Club-Highlands in Johns Creek and Brunswick.
The magazine says there’s no prescribed method for ranking the courses. Some panelists say enjoyment should be the ultimate goal, while others consider the challenges on the course, the overall environment, design and architecture.
