A man who was tased by Richmond County deputies during a struggle to take him into custody on Friday became unresponsive, according to a statement from the sheriff's office today.

Deputies were called to the 1900 block of George Road where a man was reportedly threatening to harm his family.  Authorities learned he had an outstanding Petition for Mental Evaluation.

Deputies said the man refused to comply with their orders, and he was tased during a struggle to take him into custody.

The man became unresponsive and deputies administered CPR until medical personnel arrived.

He was taken to Augusta University Medical Center and was admitted.  His name and condition have not been given.

The GBI has been asked to conduct an investigation, due to the nature of the incident.  A statement from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
